INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION 2009

162nd Liberian Independence Day Celebration
Berlin, Saturday, 25th July 2009
The Liberian Embassy of Berlin hosted their first Liberian Independence Day Celebration on July 25, 2009. The theme of the occasion was based on President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s call to uplift Liberia. The event was attended by about 50 to 60guests from all over Germany and as far as New York, NY.
The program was opened with an invocation presented by the newest Staff member to the embassy Mr. Andrew Kronyanh the Minister Counselor. Mr. Kronyanh arrived to the Berlin office on June of 2009 and has been an essential part of the Embassy since.
Mr. Patrick Bayogar (Musician) kept the event rolling smoothly leading guest in the singing of the Liberian National Anthem. Bayogar also graced the audience with his electrifying songs accompanied by his infamous accordion during interludes. As an unexpected treat to the program, Her Excellency President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf delivered the Independence Day Proclamation to Liberian Citizens via video broadcast. This was a delightful surprise to all in attendance.
Following the video presentation Ambassador Sedia Massaquoi-Bangoura gave the guest encouraging and uplifting remarks of the Presidents words. The Ambassador also gave attendees an overview of the current embassy agenda’s including details of the launch of the new embassy website, the creation of a directory for Liberians in Germany and Europe, and a brief summary of the International Women’s Colloquium that was held in March 2009 in Monrovia, Liberia.
Closing the program was another video presentation: 1000 days of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. This DVD highlighted the progression, development, and impact of the President’s efforts thus far in office. Remarks and comments were given by Mr. Dorbor Kerkulah after the showing of the video. The singing of Lone Star Forever brought the ceremony to a closed followed by a classic Liberian Diner.
